Photo Cleanup Lab works entirely on your iPhone. We do not collect, receive or store any personal data from the app. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking.
Who is responsible
The controller responsible for this app and this website is palmstudio GmbH, Pfalzgrafenstraße 38, 67434 Neustadt an der Weinstraße, Germany. You can reach us at info [at] photocleanuplab [dot] com. Full contact details are in the legal notice.
Your photo library
To find duplicates and similar shots, the app needs access to your photo library. You decide in iOS whether it may access all photos or only the ones you select, and you can change this at any time in the iOS Settings.
With this access, the app reads on your iPhone:
- your photos, to analyze them – for example how sharp they are, whether eyes are closed and how similar they look to each other
- information stored with each photo, such as the date and time it was taken, its location, its size and whether it is a favorite
The analysis uses Apple’s on-device frameworks. Your photos and the analysis never leave your device and are never sent to us or to anyone else. The app does not identify people: it only notices whether faces and people appear in a photo, not who they are.
What the app stores on your iPhone
To let you continue where you left off, the app keeps the following in its private storage on your device:
- references to your photos and the information listed above – but no copies of the photos themselves
- the analysis results, the groups it found and the decisions you made
- which weeks or months you marked as done, and your settings
This data stays on your iPhone. Like the data of any other app, it may be included in backups of your device that you create, for example in iCloud or on your computer.
iCloud Photos
If you use iCloud Photos with “Optimize iPhone Storage”, some originals may only be stored in iCloud. To analyze them, the app asks iOS to download them to your iPhone. This download takes place between your device and Apple’s iCloud under Apple’s privacy policy; we do not receive any of this data.
Deleting photos
The app never deletes anything on its own. Photos are only deleted after you have confirmed them in the app and again in the iOS confirmation dialog. Deleted photos are moved to “Recently Deleted” in the Photos app, where you can restore them for 30 days. If you use iCloud Photos, they are removed on all your devices.
Removing your data
You can remove the analysis results at any time in the app under Settings → Clear Analysis Results. Deleting the app removes everything it has stored on your iPhone. You can also withdraw the app’s photo access at any time in the iOS Settings.
App Store and Apple
The app is distributed through Apple’s App Store. Apple processes data in connection with downloads, purchases and updates under its own responsibility. This includes the free trial and the one-time purchase inside the app: both are handled entirely by Apple. The app only checks on your iPhone, using the signed purchase record Apple provides, whether the trial is running or the full version is unlocked; we receive no payment details and no information about you. If you have agreed in iOS to share analytics or crash reports with app developers, Apple may provide us with aggregated statistics and anonymous crash reports that do not identify you. You can change this in the iOS Settings under Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements.
